Alternative medicine is big business and it is estimated that People in the usa will spend $34 billion dollars on a variety of different treatments over the course of an one year. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese remedy and is usually considered within the ‘alternative medicine’ category. The alternative medicine category contains an interesting and diverse group of treatments although not each one of these solutions are considered legitimate by modern-day modern medical practice; many are simply unusual and therefore of no therapeutic worth (that’s right homeopathy, I’m talking about you). Alternative therapies, if they are to be taken seriously, will be able to stand up to scientific and medical scrutiny. Acupuncture
In traditional acupuncture, fine small needles are located in various parts of the body and are rotated or otherwise stimulated. The small needles are located along specific energy channels, or meridians. Acupuncture practitioners contend that meridians contain the human body’s life force, or chihuahua and the placement of needles along these stations influence the body’s energy for the favorable. There is no space in this article to consider the traditional Chinese method of disease and how acupuncture can modify physiological processes. That is sufficient to say that most modern doctors would disagree with the conventional Chinese explanation. However, that is not mean that acupuncture has no beneficial medical effects.
Acupuncture- can it work?
Does acupuncture actually work and should it be considered as an efficient and legitimate medical treatment? It is necessary to establish that acupuncture’s effectiveness is more than that expected over and above the placebo result. Acupuncture’s validity can only be established by executing well designed double impaired clinical trials. It will not likely do for adherents of acupuncture to say that their technique does not respond to scientific examination. If acupuncture cannot go through the rigours of technological analysis then it should be disregarded as an efficient therapy.
Practitioners of acupuncture therapy declare that it is an useful remedy for a range of medical conditions. Most studies have focussed on whether acupuncture treatment is a powerful treatment for the management of pain. Acupuncture has been recommended as therapy for medication addiction, asthma, epilepsy and depression, to mention but a few. Although acupuncture has been thoroughly investigated by medical research bodies there is little evidence to suggest that it is an efficient treatment for whatever. There is some proof which supports the the law that acupuncture helps in the management of pain however, it is no more effective than clinically approved analgesics.
Acupuncture and Quit Smoking
This article is specifically interested in the question: acupuncture to stop smoking- is it effective? Acupuncture therapists say it helps to reduce smoking cravings and withdrawal symptoms. We can’t rely on so called evidence given by acupuncture practitioners for a variety of reasons. Firstly, their accounts of the effectiveness are anecdotal and do not be eligible as medical evidence. Second of all, their testimony will be biased, consciously or without conscious thought. As mentioned previously, this is big business and acupuncture specialists are barely likely to say that their remedy is not effective, especially as their sustenance is at stake. Generally there have been a quantity of independent clinical studies looking at acupuncture to stop smoking and unfortunately I have to say that I have not found any evidence to compliment the case that acupuncture treatment to quit smoking is effective.
Of all the substitute therapies, acupuncture, at least to me, seemed to hold promise as a powerful treatment. At least there seemed a sound physical basis for the strategy; surely inserting needles into the body need to have some effect! But the most of current medical proof will not support this concept, certainly with regard to acupuncture to stop smoking. This is why it is so important to use scientific methodologies to acupuncture treatment, or for that subject any medical therapy, because after all, we all have our own particular prejudices and subjective tendency.
